**ANNOUNCING BOOK RELEASE**

"IN THE SAVANNA" - a beautifully illustrated poem that addresses the issue of the AIDS pandemic in Africa and the millions of orphans who are left behind. This book offers an easy read and a gentle way to introduce children to this devastating concern in our world today. There are beautiful photographs included and the book ends with a message of hope to find a cure.

The author, Londa S. Hayden, lives in Memphis, is married and has three children. This is the authors first published work and she is honored to dedicate it to the children of Africa.

The illustrator, Connie L. Orlando, lives in Houston, is married and has three children. She is a gifted artist and the passion in her has long desired to be used for a Cause of this nature.

Before submitting to an editor or a publisher it is imperative that one does their homework in order to make the best first impression possible.

Never ever submit a first draft
Have someone else proof your work
Get a critique group online or local to critique your work
Rewrite, Rewrite, Rewrite and Rewrite again
Read your work to your intended audience and get their reaction.
Have your Query letter reviewed by your critique group

A few more things to do before you mail out that letter or mss:

Know the guidelines and follow them to a tea
Show respect to the Editor by knowing their name and addressing them personally.
Research the various publishers and make sure your work matches what they are doing.
Note that you know what type of books this publisher is selling and how your work would compliment the publishers selling efforts.
Don't forget the SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope)
If you can submit online then do - save the trees and your printer ink.
Some publishers will not return mss - so make sure you don't waste your stamp on a SASE if it isn't necessary.
Be patient. Its a waiting game.
